So I have a new obsession, and it's Everyday Carry (EDC). EDC, as defined by the internet, is "various items, usually small, that are worn or carried by a person on a daily basis for use in everyday tasks from the mundane to the unexpected". Now as those of you who've hung out with me know, I generally have quite a few "accessories" on my person; if not in my pockets, then in one of my various bags that often accompany me. I was a Boy Scout as a kid, and they told us to always be prepared. What can I say? I took that shit to heart.

Here is a pretty comprehensive photo of what I generally have on me at most times:

My current EDC lineup is as follows:

  • House keys on a carabiner
  • Motorcycle key on a lucky rabbit's foot
  • Kershaw Scallion knife
  • Gerber Infinity Ultra Task LED flashlight
  • iPhone
  • Rebel 8 wallet
  • Hankerchief
  • Samsung S730 camera
  • Toshiba Canvio 500gb portable hard drive
  • Skull Candy headphones
  • Ecosystem notebook
  • Generic pen from a hotel desk

I use all of these things on a very regular basis and feel very comfortable having them with me at all times. That said, I've decided to upgrade my EDC loadout in the coming weeks. First of all, there's a certain aesthetic to EDC that I quite enjoy; rugged, efficient, techie. This particular vibe can be witnessed by just scrolling through a few pages of this EDC blog. I'd also like to upgrade some of the items as they are just ready to be retired. For example, my knife does not function as properly as it should when opening, my camera's specifications are very outdated, and I would like to get a soft case for that portable hard drive. And lastly, my obsession with EDC has come from my desire to consolidate my everyday bag choice. I have a lot of different bags.

Whenever I head out the door, I am constantly moving items from one bag to another, deciding which bag will best suit my outing, wishing I had more pocket space, etc. Well, in creating myself a more efficient EDC kit, I would like to also purchase a backpack that suits said kit perfectly. I would love, on any day, at any time, to just grab my backpack, and head out on my motorcycle or on foot, and just be prepared. To not have to sit and let my OCDs punch my brain for 20 minutes before I leave my home.

So that's that. That's my new obsession. If you frequent this blog, you will no doubt be hearing about it again as I nerd out uncontrollably with my new... hobby? The wife didn't understand; I don't expect you to either.
